Hola from Puerto Rico!!
Our team is about to end our first full day in Puerto Rico which was packed full of activity. We started the day with a hearty breakfast of grilled cheese, a puerto rican noveltly, and oatmeal. Our team was then split up into three groups. The boys spent the day digging in clay for the waterslide we will be constructing this week. The girls cleaned and organized the Kiosko, the camp store. And Anna and Hannah painted the names of God in English and Spanish around the chapel. We took a break for hotdogs and nachos around noon. Then it was back to work.
Although we worked very hard all day we were not short of laughter. The girls found many cockroaches which resulted in many screams, while the boys found a bright blue crab which become quite distracting for everyone. Including the dogs. A few minutes after this a gecko was caught in the kiosko by the girls but the boys were not impressed.
Our work day ended around 4:30 and this is when more of the vacation started. All the girls took advantage of the ocean while the boys took a much needed nap. Julia, the cook, made us a delicious dinner of spaghetti and corn. After dinner Caleb, the camp intern and our new friend, took us into town for a trip to Wal-Mart and Kings ice cream. We went downtown and came across a big concert and so our entire team was frisked by the police. While walking downtown we found a trolley with a sign that said the decal was done in Spring Arbor, MI!! Lets just say it was very exciting! After exploring for bit the team piled back into the van and made the trip back to camp. We debriefed our day and did devotions. Now we are getting ready for much needed sleep!
It was a wonderful day in Puerto Rico and we are all excited for the rest of the week. We can't wait to see what God is going to do. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We can definitely feel them. We love you all and are excited to get back and share more of our stories!
