Day 6
This morning came earlier than most. The guys in our group decided to get up at 6 this morning and get to work early before the sun got hot. We continued to put the forms into place for the pool at the end of water slide assuming that the cement truck would be here to pour everything into place. After breakfast we continued to get everything into place and despite the lack of sleep, the guys were very energetic as we rapped everything we said and quoted nearly the entire Dumb and Dumber movie.
As work continued and we closed in on finishing the forming we got some much needed help from some of the members of the Texas group. It was nice to receive the help because the energy was beginning to wear off and the heat was getting to us. We worked alongside each other and were able to get the job done before lunch. After eating noodles and chicken for lunch our group made the decision to continue working instead of taking a break now.
Our newest task was to disassemble the water slide and begin to move it over to the new site. After looking at what we had to work with, we realized that the nails, screws, boards, and slide it self were all pretty worn down. After some hammering and drilling we were ready to lower down the slide from the tower. We gathered up as many guys as we could from the other teams and lowered the slide down. Unfortunately it broke on the way down. The nice thing about working on the slide was that we were right next to the ocean and the breeze made the work environment much more enjoyable.
Once we got the slide down we returned to the new site and finished touching up the run-out for the slide for what seemed like the hundredth time. Once this was finished, the work day was over! A few short minutes later and everybody was piled in the van as we headed to get frappes. For those who don't know, frappes are probably the best thing ever invented on the planet Earth! Although the frappes were refreshing, the wear and tear of the day still made it tough to want to do anything once we got back to camp. The guys slept and the girls got cleaned up until dinner rolled around.
We were served rice, meat, and beans for dinner which were very good. After dinner we had our group debrief. After going around and hearing everybody's high points and low points for the day it was clear that everybody was frustrated having to go over and fix all our little mistakes. It all turned out good though because the team really bonded in those times. After our debrief we hung out at the Marshall's house. They taught us a really fun game called signs. It was so fun because half the time you look over and see Carrie lost and then you have Brandon, Duncan, myself, and Caleb just messing with whoever is in the middle of the circle. To top off a great evening we got fresh brownies and sat down together for devotions. By then we figured it was time to call it a day.
All in all, day 6 was just as good as any other day here in Puerto Rico. I mean where else could you see Hannah, Duncan, and Michael scale trees to get coconuts, or when else would Liz sniff Caleb's tattoo thinking it actually was an air freshener. The best part of the day though is when you lay your head on that pillow, calling it a day, knowing that you gave it your all for Christ!
