It's Friday

Our work day started out like all the rest, lots of good breakfast and sunscreen. We were all super tired, probably from playing so hard at the beach the day before. Sleep doesn’t seem to have the same restoring effect here for some reason... But we still got work done, even if it was with dragging limbs and sore muscles. The concrete forms we had built the day before we taken off, so that was pretty sweet to see our perfectly straight concrete columns, ready to support a building. Cement was mixed, walls were painted, rebar was bent, walls were built, and forms were made in our work day.

We concluded our work day with a crazy delicious frappe. After the frappe experience, we had some free time, some people went swimming, some just chilled and some had an opportunity to work with kids at the Missions Children's Center in the Barrio. For those who went swimming, more whales were spotted, as well as some octopus and possibly a kangaroo (although that sighting was skeptical, because aren’t they native to like Australia...?!).

You know people are tired when they start randomly singing, all crammed on a couch, waiting for dinnertime. Row Your Boat was a favorite; Dillon and Taylor really need to consider a career in choir.

After dinner we went to the Barrio for youth group. The devotion was about giving your worries over to God. It was such a simple devotion but something that we all probably admit to finding hard to do. The group games were quite hilarious- they involved yanking people out of their chairs and trying to run people into a pole. It was funnier than it sounds.

There was a little 3 year old boy who “played” basketball with us after the youth service. He was a great passer and no one was able to get past his defense when we were playing pig. Watch out NBA in about 18 years. Interacting with the local youth has always made it to the ‘highs’ in everyones day. Even though it has been a work trip, we are all thankful to have the opportunities to hang out with the kids here and there. We drove through the Barrio after the service and we learned about the rough lives a lot of these kids live. Drugs are a major problem on the island, especially in this area. There are many stories of restoration and hope though.

Even though we are super duper exhausted (Jess calls it “cement wasted”) we are still excited for working our last day tomorrow and hopefully finishing the forms and cement work we started. Thank you for all your support and prayers, we appreciate you soooo much!!!
