Finally, after patiently waiting for a few months, at 11:30 AM on March 8th, we began making our journey to Ponce Puerto Rico. The drive to Detroit Metro Airport went very well, and even though most of us were tired, we all started bonding and growing closer together. Eventually we made it to the airport. Nobody had any problems going through security, except for a couple 8 oz. containers that had to be thrown away, and everything was going very smooth. We went to our gate and sat their for a couple hours, again patiently waiting for our flight to leave. The plane was delayed by 30 min, which wasn’t that big of a deal, because we would have still made our connecting flight to San Juan. As we all know from the last update though, our Pilot had been working too long, and wasn’t able to fly. We went back inside of the Detroit airport and sat back down patiently waiting yet again. A lot of people in this type of situation would get angry, but we all kept calm and took this bad situation and made it into a good and exciting situation. We had a lot of fun on the moving sidewalks, we played cards, got some vouchers for food, talked about what our favorite movies are, watched the sunset, we have a ton of inside jokes with the whole group, and asked each other lots of questions. I personally believe that God’s plan was for us to be stuck in Detroit, because we had more of a bonding experience, and we all got to know each other so much more. Finally, 4 hours later, we got back on the plane and started making our way to Newark New Jersey. Although it seemed like Deja Vu, because our plane took so long to take off, we took off!!!
The plane flight had a little bit of turbulence, but for the most part, it was a smooth and very safe flight. We met a very nice flight attendant named Kimberly who knew everything that was going on with our flights, and took great care of us. Once we landed in Newark, Anna and Carrie went to the customer service right away to try and figure out how we were going to get to Newark, because we were scheduled to fly out on Saturday, which was not ideal for our trip. Anna and Carrie, by the way, are the best leaders for this trip because they are so patient and understanding about everything. Maria, who was the customer service lady, helped us out, because now we get to leave tonight instead of tomorrow!!! Every single person in our group has been so patient about everything and so understanding about everything, and God has already blessed us in many different ways. Maria got us more meal vouchers and even a hotel to stay right near the airport. We made it to the hotel safely and all slept in our OWN queen size beds, which was so much better than having to sleep in the airport.
All of us our so excited to get there, and so ready to spend our time serving God by serving His people. Although we don’t know the exact schedule while we are down there, we know that God has amazing plans for us, and we are so thankful that He is watching over us. God is going to bless us for our patience, and He already has blessed this trip in so many ways.
Well, the next update will be in Puerto Rico, so until then, keep praying for our travels, and know that we are all safe and having a great time.
